Isaiah 6:1-8

I will go

Uzziah, the king of Judah, had died. In that same year, Isaiah saw the Lord sitting on His throne. Around Him were flaming creatures, each with six wings. They called out to each other, “Holy, holy, holy! The Lord Almighty is holy, and His glory fills the whole earth.”

Isaiah said to himself, “There is no hope for me! I am doomed because the words I speak are sinful—and now I have seen the Lord Almighty!”

Then one of the creatures flew down and touched his lips with a glowing coal from the altar, saying, “This has touched your lips, and now your sin and guilt has been taken away.”

Then Isaiah heard the Lord say, “Whom shall I send? Who will be our messenger?”

Isaiah immediately answered, “Here am I. Send me.”

Does God still have prophets?

God mainly used prophets to bring His message to the people living in Old Testament times. Today, we have preachers, pastors and evangelists who bring God’s message to us from the Bible.

During the time of the prophets, God spoke directly to them, telling them exactly what to say. The prophets did not have the complete Bible from which to preach. In fact, much of what they said now forms part of the Old Testament. At that time the New Testament had not yet been written.

Today, we have the complete Bible as God wanted it to be. It is God’s message written by people who were guided by the Holy Spirit. Now God uses this message in the Bible to speak to us.

As in the time of the prophets, God is still looking for messengers to spread the good news of His love and forgiveness. Would you, like Isaiah, be willing to say, “Here I am, Lord. Send me”?
